What is Escrow?

The purpose of the Escrow program is to allow 10- and 11-month employees to set aside a percentage (10%) of your money from your paycheck to be paid out to you over the summer months on a 12-month pay schedule.  (if you enroll this does not mean you are considered a 12 month employee).

This program is NOT for Per Diem and 12-month employees. There will be no exceptions to enroll post the deadlines for current employees and new hires as noted below. You must wait until open enrollment (May 1st to September 15th) to do so.

If you select a 12-month schedule you can choose from one of the two (2) pay options.

District employees who are currently on an Escrow pay option do not have to select each year unless the employee wishes to change the option or discontinue it.

The deadline for current employees is September 15th

Please note – You cannot participate if you are a Per Diem or 12-Month Employee.

All escrow deductions, regardless of option selected, shall be at a rate of 10% of your bi-weekly gross pay. Each year the deductions commence in October and run through May for a total of 16 deductions.  Also, note the YTD amount for Escrow Deductions commencing with October through May is continuous; it doesn’t zero out at the start of the new year in January.  The YTD balance reflected in June of each year is the total amount deducted for Escrow.

Once you select your option, you will not be able to change that option. You will only be allowed to discontinue. Any discontinuations that are requested throughout the year will be automatically refunded between one (1) to two (2) pay periods. Once you have selected an option you cannot change until the following school year. If you discontinue during the school year you can’t re-enroll until the next school year. If you are enrolled in the four (4) check option you can’t request for a one (1) check refund during the month of June, your refund will be processed on the first check in July.

No Exceptions and No other arrangements can be made.

Escrow Reminder

The Escrow Deductions ….to commence with the pay check of October 13, 2023 through May 24, 2024 (effective dates from 9/23/2023 through 05/17/2024). To view the option you have selected,  log into ESS (Employee Self Service). You will find the instructions attached.

The refund dates are as follows for the option you have selected:

» One (1) check option effective Friday June 21, 2024

» Four (4) check option effective July 19, 2024, August 2, 2024, August 16, 2024, and August 30, 2024

If you wish to discontinue, kindly do so through the ESS process. Selection change can only be updated during open enrollment May 1st through July 15th of each year.

Records Verification

The Office of Records and Verification (R&V) is responsible for storing and filing all Newark Board of Education personnel records, providing background check information and completing employment and income verification for active and inactive employees.

We thank you for your interest in the NTU Teachers Earned MA or PhD Guides, please be guided by the requirement and deadlines noted below.  Any submission received post the deadlines will be updated for the next movement date, NO EXCEPTIONS.  Kindly note once we receive the appropriate completed credentials an approval email will be sent acknowledging your movement date for either September or February.   • The teacher must have been awarded the Master or Doctor degree prior to July 1st of each school year for movement on September 1st and prior to December 1st for movement on February 1st. The degree must be from a duly authorized institution of higher education as defined in N.J.S.A. 18A:3-15.3. The degree must be in a field that is related to the teacher’s current or future aspiring teaching responsibilities or educational leadership as defined in N.J.S.A. 18A:6-8.5.

The following are ways in which you can submit your transcripts:
  • Employee can scan a legible electronic copy to the Transcripts Mailbox
  • Employee can request an official copy and have the University email them to the Transcripts mailbox
